President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is up with two new ads attacking GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney on outsourcing jobs and women’s rights issues.
Both 30-second spots begin airing today in Virginia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada.
One ad, titled “Troubled,” takes aim at Romney’s support for overturning Roe v. Wade and cutting off federal funding to Planned Parenthood.
“Every woman who believes decisions about our bodies and our health care should be our own is troubled Mitt Romney supports overturning Roe versus Wade,” a female narrator says. “Romney backed a law that outlaws all abortion – even in cases of rape and incest.”
The ad uses clips of Romney saying he’ll cut off funding to Planned Parenthood with the narrator saying: “For women, Planned Parenthood means life-saving cancer screenings and family-planning services.”
In the other spot, titled “The Problem,” the Obama campaign again accuses Romney of outsourcing jobs during his time with Bain Capital.
The ad begins with a close-up of Romney saying: “The Chinese are smiling all the way to the bank, taking our jobs, and taking a lot of our future. And I’m not willing to let that happen.”
A narrator follows: “He made a fortune letting it happen. Newly published documents show Mitt Romney’s firms were pioneers at helping companies outsource their manufacturing to countries including China.”
The ad closes: “Mitt Romney’s not the solution. He’s the problem.”
The ad quotes a June 21 Washington Post article that the Romney campaign has claimed was inaccurate and sought a retraction. The newspaper declined to retract the report.
FactCheck.org has looked into a previous Obama campaign ad that accused Romney of outsourcing jobs during his time at Bain Capital and found no evidence to support that Romney shipped jobs overseas.
The Obama campaign has challenged the fact-checking organization’s findings.
“Today, President Obama is out with another completely dishonest attack ad against Mitt Romney,” responded Romney campaign spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. “The more President Obama fails the middle class, the more his campaign resorts to desperate lies. President Obama already has the worst jobs record since the Great Depression but now he also seems determined to go down in history as one of the most dishonest.”
