Democratic U.S. Senate nominee and former Gov. Timothy M. Kaine has raked in the endorsement of Students for a New American Politics PAC.

The group is the largest student-run political action committee in the U.S. and will devote two field organizers to Kaine’s campaign this summer.

“For his entire life, Governor Kaine has worked to create opportunities for our businesses and our families,” said Matthew Breuer, executive director for the group, who said Kaine “has a clear vision of how we can ensure our nation’s global economic competitiveness by building the world’s most talented workforce.”

Kaine, who has been campaigning on fostering a “talent economy” by investing in education and promoting workforce training business recruitment, said he was grateful for the endorsement.

“It’s been energizing to see so much support from students and other young people because their generation will be the one that determines our long-term economic competitiveness,” Kaine said.

Four Republicans are battling for the party’s nomination to be decided in a June 12 primary. They are: former Gov. George Allen; state Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William; Chesterfield County tea party activist Jamie Radtke and Chesapeake minister E.W. Jackson.
