A day ahead of Republican presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s visit to Richmond on Wednesday, U.S. Senate candidate Timothy M. Kaine will hold a forum for seniors on the future of Social Security.

A release from Kaine’s campaign announcing the Tuesday morning said that Perry “will no doubt promote the extreme Republican agenda which labels Social Security a ‘Ponzi’ scheme and seeks to privatize it.”

Perry has faced criticism for repeatedly equating the entitlement program with a Ponzi scheme, most recently at last week’s GOP debate.

The forum is part of a campaign launched last week by Kaine for Virginia to “raise awareness bout the Republican Party’s efforts to disparage and dismantle Social Security.”

The forum will be held Tuesday at the Imperial Plaza in Richmond at 9 a.m.
